A 25 mile circular mainly flat bike ride starting from Rickmansworth tube/rail station at 10.45am to Bricket Wood on the outskirts of St Albans cycling along a mixture of cycle paths, country lanes, minor roads, canal paths, bridle paths, woods and parks before finishing back at Rickmansworth at 5.30pm on Sunday 11 October.
From Rickmansworth we cycle along the Ebury way towards Watford. After an early coffee stop at either the Watford cycle hub where they provide refreshments or The Giraffe café next to Tescos at Watford, we cycle along quiet country lanes surrounded by pleasant farmland and meadows, through Bricket Wood where those that want to drop out after about 12 miles, can catch a train at 36 mins past the hour from Bricket Wood station to Euston. Lunch will be at 'The Three Hammers' at Chiswell Green on the outskirts of St Albans.
The route then takes us to Kings Langley where we cycle along the canal path to Hunton Bridge then climb a hill to cycle through Whippendell Woods where we re-join the canal path to Rickmansworth.
Option of a visit to Rickmansworth Aquadrome for tea before catching the tube/train back to London - estimated finishing time 5.30pm.
Travel arrangements
Meet outside the entrance of Rickmansworth tube station at 10.45am.
Rickmansworth is in zone 7 and served by Chiltern Line Railways aswell as the Metropolitan line - Amersham and Chesham branches.
Catch the 10.12 from Marylebone which arrives at Rickmansworth at 10.34. Train stops at Harrow-on-the-Hill 10.24.
Alternatively catch the 09.50 Met Line from Baker Street - Chesham Branch which arrives at Rickmansworth at 10.28 or the 10.05 Met Line - Amersham branch from Baker Street which arrives at Rickmansworth at 10.44.
Return Met line trains every 15 mins from Rickmansworth back to Baker Street with the Chiltern Line trains running at 03 and 33 mins past the hour back to Marylebone.
