Chichester Sea Kayaking and cycling weekend

On Saturday 12 of us tried out sea kayaking in Chichester harbour, which was amazing.  After 5 hours we arrived back at our starting point in Itchenor, tired but still exhilarated.

On Sunday, some went on long lazy cycle ride on the Salterns Way and Route 888, while others went walking and sightseeing.  Here are a few pictures we brought back.

Winter walking and mountain biking in the Cabo de Gata

We are planning a trip to the Cabo de Gata in February 2016 (around 10 days or so or you can come for a shorter period eg a week. We will be staying in San Jose.
Cabo de Gata Park is an unspoilt, wild and isolated coastal park with a hot desert climate, the driest and sunniest location in Europe. The scenery is spectacular with sharp peaks and crags falling away steeply to the Mediterranean resulting in a series of high cliffs that sweep vertically to the sea, losing themselves in the crystal clear water. There are hidden coves with white sandy beaches, migratory birds, fishing villages, windmills and abandoned mines. We were here about 10 years ago and it is lovely place to go in the winter.
We will be based in a spacious villa with bougainvillea growing on the wall in San Jose, walking distance from shops, restaurants and the beach. The house has a large garden and spectacular views from the terrace off the lounge.
Flights are to Almeria (around 20 miles away).
Shared accommodation in twin rooms (one or two people may be in own rooms for which there will be a single supplement)
Accommodation cost: around £90 total cost per person for 10 days, perhaps less, depending on exchange rate etc
Other costs: flights, food, hire cars, hire bikes (if required)

Last call for the Chichester weekend.

We have 12 people booked on the sea kayaking on Saturday but if you don't want to sea kayak you can just come along for the walking or cycling on Sunday
You can travel down on Saturday and join the walking and cycling on Sunday or else come down on Friday, do your own thing on Saturday and join the walk/cycle on the Sunday.

Thames Sailing Barge Weekend

Photos from the sailing weekend aboard the Thames Sailing Barge Centaur.

Thames sailing barge weekend

Twelve of us went off sailing on Centaur, an historic Thames Sailing Barge and you can follow us on this journey on Twitter @clogtweets.
This weekend is organised by CLOG in conjunction with the Thames Sailing Barge Trust. http://www.bargetrust.org/
Centaur is a large coastal sailing vessel, not a narrow boat as found on canals and is a magnificent relic of the bygone age of sail. With good weather this will be a wonderful and unusual experience of life aboard as it was lived a hundred years ago (but with some mod cons ).

More photos of an adventurous walk to Forbidden Foulness Island last Saturday via a tidal walk along the ancient Broomway, an unmarked six-mile right of way across the Black Grounds and Maplin and Foulness Sands.

Walking the Broomway can be hazardous because there are no waymarks and the tide comes in extremely fast. Anyone who gets lost out there will be swept away when the tide comes in. Use of a compass and tide tables are essentially and never attempt this route in poor visibiity.

When we did this walk last year, we found a dead body but this years walk went according to plan
